Video: Knesset Speaker Edelstein lights Israeli Independence Day Torch in Honor of Jonathan Pollard

Justice4JPnews - April 23, 2015

The first torch commemorating Israel's 67th year of statehood was lit by Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein who dedicated the flame in honor of Jonathan Pollard who is completing his 30th year of a life sentence in an American prison for his activities on behalf of Israel's security.

Despite the manifest injustice of his case, Pollard was recently informed by the US Parole Commission that his "mandatory release" date of November 21, 2015 "is not automatic" and that he is now facing "45 years" to natural life in prison -- a sentence unprecedented in American history.

Jonathan Pollard is the only person ever to receive a life sentence for spying for an ally. The median sentence is 2 to 4 years.
