Some 300 people staged a protest on Thursday night outside the David Citadel Hotel in Jerusalem, where U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is staying during his visit to Israel, demanding the release of Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard from an American prison.

The protest was organized by Bar-Ilan University's student union and the Free Pollard movement.

MKs Hilik Bar (Labor) and Dov Lipman (Yesh Atid) were also among the protesters, as was Jerusalem City Councilman Dov Kalmanovich.

The protesters waved Israeli flags and posters reading "29 years is enough," and "Let Pollard go."

"We simply cannot accept a situation in which dozens of killers are set free while one of our own people is rotting in jail," Bar-Ilan University's student union head Matan Bar-Noy said, referring to Israel's release of Palestinian prisoners earlier this week.

Bar said, "The time has come for Pollard to return home."
