Economics and Trade Minister and Bayit Yehudi head Naftali Bennett has joined in the calls for the release of Jonathan Pollard from his American prison. "We welcome the President of the United States to Israel," Bennett told a meeting of Bayit Yehudi MKs. "The U.S. is a true friend of Israel, and the differences of opinions between us are disagreements between friends.

"I call on the President to let Jonathan Pollard return home as soon as possible," Bennett added.

In a weekend interview, Obama said that he "would not release Pollard immediately."

Bennett also discussed the party's entry into the coalition. "The negotiations are behind us," he told party MKs. "We now stand behind the Prime Minister.

"We have been given the tools we need to make changes, in the Economics and Commerce Ministry, the Religious Affairs Ministry, and the Elderly Affairs Ministry," Bennett said. "We want the economy to serve the people," he added. "We have an unprecedented opportunity to make change. We are not indebted to any tycoons or political forces, workers' committees, or other groups, but to the Israeli public. We are like a tightly wound spring that is ready to open up and serve the people, and return the economy to the Israeli people."
