Tirosh: Peres shouldn't accept medal after slap from Obama

MK Ronit Tirosh (Kadima) urged President Shimon Peres to continue to push US President to bring about the release of Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard.

Tirosh said that she had been brought to tears by a White House statement saying that its stance on Pollard had not changed and that Obama did not intend to release him.

Peres sent an urgent personal request to Obama on Monday in which he officially asked him to favorably consider commuting the life sentence of Pollard on humanitarian grounds.

Tirosh, co-chair of the Knesset Pollard caucus, told Army Radio: Peres is so loved by the American administration. Peres told me that he would see how to do it [release Pollard] in a way that could work."

"The White House's answer is disappointing," Tirosh continued. "Pollard is apparently just a political card for them. If I was Peres, I wouldn't take the medal. I can't understand such wickedness."
