Obama has NOT refused Peres' Appeal for Pollard's Release

Contrary to the frenzied chorus of breaking news reports, President Obama has not turned down the personal request of Shimon Peres to free Jonathan Pollard now because of his deteriorating health.

The personal request from Peres was made on the basis of his close relationship with the American president. He awaits his esteemed colleague's personal response.

A premature comment by a White House functionary purporting to deny the request is irrelevant. It should be noted that this irrelevant statement was made even before President Peres' request was received!

President Peres' office has declined to comment pending the receipt of an official personal response from President Obama.
