Kahlon visit to Pollard canceled

Gil Hoffman - The Jerusalem Post - March 14, 2011

Communications and Social Affairs Minister Moshe Kahlon will not get to visit Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard at his North Carolina prison cell on Wednesday as he had planned, because of Pollard's poor health.

Kahlon announced with great fanfare last week that he would be the first cabinet minister to visit Pollard in several years. But it was already clear then that Pollard's health situation would make the visit extremely unlikely.

"Jonathan regrets that he will be unable to meet with the minister," his wife Esther said. "Now is the time for Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to act intensively to bring Jonathan home."

Yuli Edelstein was the first sitting minister to meet with Pollard in 1996. Since then, Limor Livnat, Dan Naveh, and Netanyahu himself have visited him.
