Laura Bush Receives Petition for Pollard's Release
Arutz-7 - May 22, 2005
Gila Katzav, wife of President Moshe Katzav, gave visiting First Lady Laura Bush today a petition asking the United States to free Jonathan Pollard from prison. The petition was signed by 13 Knesset members and was initiated by MK Gila Finkelstein (National Religious Party).
Pollard is serving a life sentence for passing on intelligence information to Israel when he was an analyst for the United States Navy. Pollard and supporters have argued that the sentence was unduly harsh. The committee for freeing Pollard praised Mrs. Katzav for forwarding the petition to Mrs. Bush and noted that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon had not acted on its request to deliver petitions to President George W. Bush.
