HaRav Aviner: He Who Forgets Gaza And Pollard Cannot Save Jerusalem or The Nation

JERUSALEM

- At the world conference of the Orthodox Leaders of the World Zionist Organization, HaRav Shlomo Aviner spoke this morning. He addressed a special session dealing with: "Orthodox Leadership And the Disengagement Plan."

In his speech, HaRav Aviner highlighted the idea that devotion to the public can only be achieved if the value of the individual is grasped. The Rav referred to the Midrash about King David. In spite of dire circumstances when the very fate of the nation hung in the balance, King David refused to be crowned king as long as his wife Michal was not released from captivity. "Similarly", (said Rav Aviner) " he who forgets Gaza cannot speak about Jerusalem. And whoever forgets about Jonathan Pollard cannot save the Nation."

Justice4JP adds: HaRav Shlomo Aviner is the Rav of Bet-El and the Rosh Yeshiva of Ateret Cohanim in the Old City of Jerusalem. He has written and spoken extensively on the Pollard case. Rav Aviner recently published two new articles about Jonathan Pollard in Hebrew. One was published last week in Mayanei Hayishua and a second one, in two parts, is being published this week and next in B'Avahava U B'emunah. Both articles deal with the notions of self-nullification and selflessness in pursuit of public service. J4JP plans to make the translation of these articles available to the English speaking public.
