"Pollard Saved Israel, Now Israel Must Save Him"
Arutz7 - November 30, 2003
This morning a group of 'Youth for Jonathan Pollard' activists held an animated protest outside Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's office. The protest vigil was directed toward the cabinet ministers taking part in the cabinet meeting.
"Today (Sunday) marks 19 years (according to the Hebrew calendar) since Jonathan Pollard's incarceration," said Sara Stark, an ardent activist on Pollard's behalf, "it is intolerable that the government ministers of the State of Israel conduct their business as usual, discussing the release of Palestinian terrorists while Jonathan Pollard languishes in an American prison."
The activists wore gas masks bearing the words: 'Pollard rescued Israel from the threat of Biological/Chemical attacks, when will we rescue him?'
The group, part of the 'Freedom for Jonathan Pollard' movement, say today's vigil was but the first of many actions planned to mark 19 years since Pollard's imprisonment.
"Pollard saved Israel from chemical gas attack," explained Stark, "It is because of him that Israel knows about the chemical and biological threats from Iran and Iraq. Jonathan Pollard, the son of holocaust survivors, discovered US intelligence information about chemical gas being produced in order to attack Israel with. He refused to allow any more Jews to be gassed and so he did what was right and passed on the information to Israel. Every citizen of Israel now owns a gas mask because of Jonathan Pollard its time for us to say thank-you."
The activists originally planned to block cabinet members' cars, but the ministers were advised to use a different exit.
They protesters, directing their words toward Pollard, said they wanted him to know: "We won't stop until you are free. We are prepared to do whatever it takes to gain your freedom."
J4JP Note:
Jonathan's activities on behalf of Israel were not quite so unilateral as appears above. Jonathan was painfully aware that Israeli lives were being put in jeopardy as a result of an illegal undeclared intelligence embargo on the part of certain individuals in the American administration. Before taking any other steps, he did everything he possibly could to stop this covert policy and to have the legal flow of information to Israel restored. When his efforts met no success, fearing for the lives that might be lost if he failed to act, he then began to give the information to Israel directly.
