Pollard Mourns Loss of "treasured friend" Rechavaam Ze'evi

Justice4JP Release - October 18, 2001

Esther and Jonathan Pollard counted Rechavaam Ze'evi and his wife Yael among their close personal friends. They are devastated by the news of Minister Ze'evi's assassination.

One of the names engraved on the late Minister's famous dog-tag [bearing the names of all of Israel's MIAs and captives] was that of Jonathan Pollard. Throughout the 16 years of Jonathan's incarceration, Minister Ze'evi never missed an opportunity to speak out boldly for the release of Israel's agent. Rechavaam Ze'evi will be sorely missed by all of Israel, and especially by the Pollards. May he be a "melitz yoshar" for all of Israel.

On behalf of himself and his wife Esther, Jonathan Pollard immediately sent the following message of condolence to Mrs. Yael Ze'evi:

Dearest Yael and Family:

Our hearts are broken.

Esther and I have lost a treasured friend and Israel has lost a beloved son and valued leader.

Yael, we have no words to express our sorrow at the profound loss we are all experiencing since the brilliant light of your beloved husband, Rechavaam, was extinguished this morning.

Esther and I send our most heartfelt condolences to you and all of Rechavaam's loved ones.

May the Almighty comfort you among the mourners of Zion and may you be spared further sorrow.

With much love,
