Intelligence Employee Sentenced for Spying

July 13, 1997 - The New York Times

Washington, July 12 - A former employee of the United States Office of Naval Intelligence, Robert Kim, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for passing secret Government information to South Korea.

Mr. Kim, who also received three years of supervised release in the sentencing on Friday, pleaded guilty in May to conspiracy to commit espionage. He admitted that he had delivered classified information to a South Korean naval official in 1996.

Mr Kim, a 57 year old computer specialist who was born in Korea but became an American citizen, agreed to a plea bargain to avoid the possibility of life imprisonment.

WILL THE JEWISH COMMUNITY CONTINUE TO SIT BY AS JONATHAN POLLARD COMPLETES HIS 12TH YEAR OF A LIFE SENTENCE FOR THE SAME CRIME AS ROBERT KIM?

Naval analyst Jonathan Pollard passed classified information to a friendly country, just like Robert Kim did:

  • Pollard gets life, time in a hospital for the criminally insane and solitary.
  • Kim gets 9 years.
