Report: Influential Congressman Visited Pollard In Jail

Jerusalem Post - February 25, 1996

The influential chairman of the House International Relations Committee, Rep. Benjamin Gilman (D-NY), visited convicted spy Jonathan Pollard last week at the Butner, North Carolina, federal prison, aides to Gilman confirm in the upcoming edition of US News and World Report.

The Gilman visit, the first by a member of Congress since the former US Navy intelligence officer was sentenced in 1987 to life imprisonment for passing secrets to the Israeli government, raises speculation that Gilman may be active in the drive to grant Pollard clemency.
