The Conference of Presidents of
Major American Jewish Organizations
110 E. 59th Street
Fourth Floor
New York, NY 10022
Att: Lester Pollock, President
Dear Mr. Pollack:
I am chagrined and astonished at the word now in the public realm that not a single member of the President's Conference, among those that recently met with President Clinton, felt it necessary to raise the issue of the President's rejection of clemency for Jonathan Pollard.
As history has amply demonstrated, we require Jewish leadership that is assertive and that will stand up to those in authority when the cause is just. What we do not need are those that are too impressed with, or intimidated by, those in authority to have the fortitude to speak their minds.
I certainly hope the members of the Presidents' Conference will try, in some way, to redeem their ignominious failure.
Very truly yours,
(signed)
