HaRav HaGaon Ben-Tzion Motzofi on Jonathan Pollard

Justice4JPnews - August 1, 2010

In a recent broadcast on Reshet Moreshet, on Jonathan Pollard's Hebrew birthday (Erev Tisha B'Av) a caller asked the guest speaker, HaRav HaGaon Ben-Tzion Motzofi, about Jonathan Pollard. The caller asked specifically whether or not the public has any obligation, either morally or religiously to help Jonathan Pollard by praying for him and writing to him or by contributing to public activities for him.

HaRav Motzofi responds strongly, and very much from the heart, a resounding, "Yes! We are absolutely obliged to help Jonathan Pollard! We owe him an enormous debt!" The Rav then expounds at length the indebtedness of all Jews towards Pollard, both as a Jew and as especially as one who was moser nefesh for Am Yisrael (one who sacrificed himself for Am Yisrael.). He speaks of how Pollard worked for the security of all Jews in the Land, and for that reason we owe him an enormous debt of gratitude; he speaks of how our lack of merit keeps Pollard in chains; he speaks of American betrayal and cruelty which knows no bounds in this case, and how the cruelty is aimed at humiliating all Jews. He ends with a quote from Tehillim, which serves as reminder that HaShem and HaShem alone is the true redeemer, and he blesses Jonathan for a swift speedy release and return home to the land, and with his return, Geula Shleimah for all of Israel. He speaks of the recompense that HaShem will surely bestow upon Pollard for all he has suffered. The radio show host responds to the Rav's blessing and dedicates the broadcast to Jonathan Pollard's speedy redemption, calling upon all listeners to pray for Yehonatan ben Malka.

For those who understand Hebrew, it is heartening to hear Rav Motzofi's full remarks.
