Re: United States v. Jonathan Jay Pollard
Crim. No. 86-0207 (NHJ)
Dear Ms. Lewis:
On November 29, 2000, I wrote to you urging that you grant Mr. Pollard's security-cleared defense counsel access to the classified portions of the court docket. I have not received any response to that letter.
Since then, your office has continued to oppose any access to the classified record by Mr. Pollard's counsel. On January 12, 2001, Hon. Norma Holloway Johnson agreed with your office's position and denied defense counsel's motion for access.
As a Member of Congress, I would like to know:
- For each classified portion of the five classified documents, what is the classification (e.g., confidential, secret, top secret)?
- For each classified portion of the five classified documents, what is the declassification schedule?
- How many people have been accorded access to any of these classified documents since March 4, 1987, the day of Mr. Pollard's sentencing?
I look forward to your prompt response.
Very truly yours,
(signed)
Congressman Anthony Weiner
